The Show Heroes was written by Tim Kring. This show is about a group of strangers who after an eclipse discover that they have super powers. Not only do they come to discover they have powers but things in the world is not quite as it seems. All the characters have intertwining stories, each one very carefully connected to the other. There are multiple protagonist in the show. The main character is Peter Petrelli though. In the first season Peter Petrelli discovers that he has the ability to absorb other peoples powers when he is around. The first ability Peter ever absorbs is his brother Nathan Petrelli's ability to fly. Peter along with several other characters are on a mission to prevent times square from being blown up by a nuclear bomb. A man named Issac has the ability to paint the future and on his floor lay a painting of a nuclear blast destroying all of new York city. While the Heroes are all trying to figure out a way the Villain named Sylar is on a quest of his own. Sylar is a serial killer who has an ability similar to Peters. What separates Sylar from everyone else that he likes to cut the heads of his victims open to gain their powers. He has his eye on a cheerleader names Clair Benet. Clair has a healing ability. If Sylar had stole her ability he would have ultimately taken over the world and killed the rest of the Heroes. This was forseen by a character named Hiro that can bend space and time and travel to the future as well as stop time. At the end of the season all the characters meet full circle in Times Square in a showdown against Sylar to stop the "Nuclear Bomb" from exploding.
Philosophy of Heroes
Heroes is very interesting when trying to relate super natural powers to real life. In the show Dr. MohinderSuresh speaks about the theory of Evolution and often refers to the Darwin's Origin of species. It is frequently mentioned that these emerging Heroes are the result of an evolutionary anomaly. However, theology is also mentioned throughout the series. Suresh says "We all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise...or when we fall? or does a forces larger than ourselves bid us our direction? Is it evolution that takes us by the hand? Does science point out way? or is it God who intervenes, keeping us safe?" Throughout the series you never really get a clear cut definition to the exact cause of the power and you are never left feeling that evolution out ways God. In the second seasons the writers of the show tried to make God more relevant in the show. The character Nathan Petrelli who suffers a terrible accident turns to God in his time of despair. Nathan firmly believes that God has places his hand on Nathans life; and Nathan ultimately decides to run for Presidency and wins. In the very last season fans are still unclear as to the exact reasoning behind the connection of all their characters. We also never get answer if the powers are God given or just an advancement in the Evolution of man.
Memorable Quotes
"God is the only one with the message. It's a message of hope and urgency, because he's not gonna wait much longer. His message is a simple one — We're all connected. Our hopes, our dreams, our children's future, reflecting back in each others eyes. We fight our own personal battles, but we know we're not alone. Because only together can we make our short time on this planet mean something. Only together can we be the stewards of our own destiny. And we hold in our collective hearts one noble goal — Save ourselves, save the world." -Nathan Petrelli-
"Our children deserve a better future, a future where they do not have to face their fears alone, but can look into the darkness and find hope. I challenge everyone inhere to inspire by example, to fight the battle, no matter the cost. Because the world is sick, it's spinning out of control. But we can help. With our help it can heal. With our love, with our compassion and with our strength we can heal. Let's put aside our differences, let's embrace our common goals. Let's do it for our children. Let's show them all exactly what we are capable of." -Nathan Petrelli-
"You can do anything; be anything." -Nathan Petrelli-
"This quest. This need to solve life's mysteries. In the end, what does it matter when the human heart can only find meaning in the smallest of moments. They're here. Among us. In the shadows. In the light. Everywhere. Do they even know yet?" -Dr.Suresh-
"Every hero must learn his purpose. Then he'll be tested and called to greatness." -Hiro Nakamura-
